MEET SARAH HWANG

BIO

Sarah Hwang is a Milwaukee Native and is a Graduate of Nicolet High School. She then went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Telecommunications from Indiana University-Bloomington and a Master of Arts - Business from the Bolz Center for Arts Administration from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.  Sarah spent her career in theatre marketing having worked at Skylight Opera Theatre (now Skylight Music Theatre), Court Theatre at the University of Chicago and Renaissance Theaterworks.

In 1999 Sarah was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune disease of the Central Nervous System.  The progressive nature of MS caused Sarah to stop working in 2012. Since her diagnosis, she has become more active with the Wisconsin Chapter of the National MS Society, now serving on it’s Board of Trustees, and its WalkMS held in Milwaukee every May.  She, her family and her team, Hwang’s Wok-er’s, have been the Walk’s top fundraisers for the past 5 years.  Their fundraising success is in great part due to the Fight MS: Eggroll Style fundraiser they hold annually. This ever-growing event features an all-you-can-eat, homemade, Chinese buffet prepared by Sarah’s amazing husband Milt.  As part of her Board commitment, Sarah serves at the Chair of Community Engagement for Milwaukee and the Wisconsin Chapter of the MS Society.

Sarah is a singer and has been singing in her congregation's Choir for the past 8 years. She is also the lead vocalist for The Band Squirrel!, a laid-back and somewhat ridiculous group of musicians who play a variety of rock genres.

Sarah is willing able to cover topics related to “Living with a Chronic Illness,” “Overcoming Adversity,” “Being Disabled,” “Successful Fundraising with Small Gifts,” “Adapting to Change,” etc.
