SCHOOL MINI-GRANTS

Hours Against Hate School Mini-Grants support student group, class, or all-school programming that engages students across lines of difference. These mini-grants for up to $1000 support schools’ participation in the Hours Against Hate effort by planning at least five programs to be completed during the 2018-19 school year.
WHAT COUNTS AS PROGRAMMING?
Goals of programs should include promoting positive identity development, developing listening skills and empathy, dismantling bias, and promoting inclusive school climate.

Ideas for programming include, but are not limited to:
-
Planning special “lunch hours” for dialogue
-
Bringing in speakers from the Hours Against Hate Speakers Bureau or from the community
-
Transportation that will bring different school groups together.

One of the five programs may focus on school staff, including dialogue or training.

Mini-grant funding may be used for one or more of the programs, but the applicant must commit to completing at least five programs.
HOW DO I QUALIFY?
Principals, teachers, social workers, guidance counselors, specialists and student groups are encouraged to apply.

Mini-grants will reimburse expenses after programming has occurred and evaluation materials are submitted.

All schools receiving mini-grants will be included in a list of institutions participating in the Hours Against Hate effort. Testimonials from participants (educators and/or students) will be collected to be shared in print, online and in social media (testimonials can be anonymous). Schools are responsible to obtain parental releases for any student photos.
